Goyard Bags

Short history of Goyard Bags: Francois Goyard arrived in the world in September of 1828 in Clamecy, Burgundy and the story began.  Surprisingly his family was known for being transporters of wood.  The transported the wood by river from the forests to Paris to be used for heating.  In 1832 Francois’ father moved the family to Paris looking for a more rewarding life for the family.

At the age of seventeen Francois Goyard became an apprentice Morel, an esteemed trunk maker.  He was respected by his mentor so much that after Morel’s death in 1853 Francois became heir to the company.  Eventually, Goyard married and had two children.  His son, Edmond, took over for his father when he was twenty five.

His son Maurice became a jeweler.  Edmond became such the jeweler that he won numerous awards.  And Maison Goyard had become the favorite luggage maker internationally.  These bags are still sought out today.  Special order luggage and carrying cases became all the rage.  And then they turned to handbags, which are still desired all over the world.

The purchase of a Goyard Handbag is not a light purchase and can run anywhere from $1500 to $4000 or better.  They can only be found in the most formidable high end stores in the world, such as Barneys of New York and Neiman Marcus.  These bags are not considered merely bags but art and something of great desire.  Among those who love and use the Goyard bags are famous names like Kelly Ripa, Nicky Hilton, Hilary Duff just to name a few.
